INTRODUCTION

Plym Tae Kwon Do was founded by chief instructor Julie Knight.
We are a non-for-profit organization, not part of any big sports company.
We are run by the members who volunteer their time to help promote Tae Kwon Do as a non-aggressive,
confidence building sport that is available to everybody.
Plym Tae Kwon Do see themselves very much as a family focused club. We encourage family participation
and have a number of parents/families who train together.
Parents/families are welcomed to watch their children train and encouraged to
watch them grade at any time up to national level.

As well as the annual presentation evening where all students are rewarded for their effort throughout the year, a few times a year we organize non Tae Kwon Do events where everyone is welcome. These have included summer fun days at the beach, swimming, ice skating, discos etc. As well as just having fun, the aim of this is to build friendships between families in addition to the formal respect, discipline and self confidence gained from the sport.

Additionally we organize a number of social events, both for families and adults which we would like to encourage members and their parents/families to take an interest . We hold dinner dances twice a year, quiz nights, horse race nights, barn dances etc and are always open to new ideas. Not only is this good fun but it also helps us to raise funds for the club and to support our links with the greater Tae Kwon Do family.

Plym Tae Kwon Do also has it’s own demonstration team made up from students of all ages, which is open for everyone to join, regardless of the level they are at. The team trains hard at lessons throughout the year and enjoys displaying their hard work and dedication at demonstrations. They are available to perform at fairs and events throughout the year.

We would be very pleased to see more parents join us in any of the club activities, either training nights, grading, fun days, socials or fund raising events. We do try to make everybody very welcome

We try to maintain close links with Julie Knight’s Master, Master Jin, in California and Master Park, in Seoul, South Korea. Through this we have been able to host the Korea Eagles, Seoul’s youth demonstration team in Plymouth periodically for the last six years. We aim to bring the demonstration team over to England every two years.

The Korean visits are for everyone and we encourage families to participate in them as much as possible. We see them as being very beneficial to all of our students and their families. Everyone gets the opportunity to train alongside the worlds best, getting tuition from a world class champion, which raises our students standards and expectations tremendously. They also gain from the opportunity to mix with their peers from not only a different country but also a totally different culture. No matter what language barriers there may be, everybody from both countries seem to thoroughly enjoy the experience, which normally culminates with the Korean students staying with our families for a few days.
